NILES TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Benton Harbor man is dead after a suspected alcohol-involved crash in Berrien County.
Deputies were called for a report of a dark SUV going the wrong way on northbound St. Joseph Valley Parkway early Wednesday morning, but around 3 a.m. they received another report about a head-on crash that occurred on the same road near mile marker 9 in Niles Township.
When first responders arrived they found a 29-year-old woman outside a GMC Arcadia and a 28-year-old man who was thrown from a Ford Fusion.
The victim, identified as Darnell Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
WOOD-TV reports that prosecutors are now reviewing potential charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death for the woman involved.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
