SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Springfield man is in custody after assaulting three women, knocking one unconscious, and assaulting officers while trying to flee the scene in Calhoun County.
Deputies were dispatched to a report of a man assaulting three women in the roadway in the 300 block of Avenue A near North 25th Street in Springfield just after 7 p.m. Sunday.
When they arrived the suspect fled in a vehicle through private yards, crashed into some trees, and then fled on foot. A sheriff’s K-9 tracked down the 32-year-old man and he resisted arrest and assaulted officers before being taken into custody.
Authorities later learned that the man was assaulting his girlfriend when the two other women attempted to intervene, but he assaulted them, knocking one unconscious.
One of the women, who was pregnant, was treated for minor injuries at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Deputies state that the suspect’s girlfriend was cited for hindering a criminal investigation after she refused to cooperate and provided false statements.
