LANSING, MI WKZO AM/FM) – An Executive Order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer banning evictions in the state ended late last week, but a backlog is slowing the number of cases that are making it to court.
With courts continuing to be closed due to the pandemic, filing is taking place online, and the sheer number of cases that are in the system is delaying how quickly they get resolved.
Legal experts say that some landlords and tenants are taking advantage of the state’s eviction diversion program, but some landlords are selecting the regular eviction process to resolve things.
