DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Mayor Mike Duggan is introducing a proposal to save Detroit homes from demolition.
Last night, Duggan announced Proposal N, which is a $250 million bond plan to stabilize 8,000 vacant, salvageable houses. The plan would also demolish 8,000 structures that can’t be saved.
Duggan says it is a way to improve local neighborhoods and the quality of life for many Detroit residents, while also awarding 50-percent of all contracts to local companies.
The plan, funded by unlimited tax general obligation bonds, would be put on the November 3 ballot if approved. The city council rejected Duggan’s previous proposal last fall.
