KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is in custody after threatening two people with a knife during a robbery in downtown Kalamazoo.
Public Safety officers say two Kalamazoo residents were walking to work when they were approached by a 64-year-old man asking for money near North Burdick Street and Eleanor Street just before 7 a.m. Saturday.
When the two said they did not have any money the man pulled out a large knife.
Authorities say one of the two residents was a concealed pistol license holder and drew his weapon to protect them, but as they attempted to distance themselves from the suspect, he continued advancing towards them while holding the knife.
They were eventually able to get away and go into a nearby building to call 911.
When first responders arrived they located the suspect and he was arrested on several felony charges. He is currently awaiting arraignment. No other details have been released at this time.
