MARSHALL, MI (WTVB/WNWN/WKZO) – The oldest county fair in Michigan will not be held this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Calhoun County Agricultural and Industrial Society announced on Friday that its Board of Directors voted to cancel this year’s Calhoun County Fair which was scheduled to take place during the week of August 16.
They said the decision was not made lightly but in wake of the pandemic and Governor Whitmer’s Safe Start Plan, holding a traditional in person fair was not feasible.
In the statement issued by the board, they said they hold the safety of everyone connected with the fair paramount.
The board is encouraging livestock show promoters to reach out to the fairgrounds office to set up shows at the Fairgrounds for area youngsters. The Fair Nonlivestock Committee will meet soon to discuss virtual options for still exhibits.
Vendors and campers are asked to contact the fairgrounds office by July 16 to get a refund for 2020, otherwise the balances will be applied to the 2021 Fair. Exibitor entry fees paid through ShoWorks will be refunded through the mail.
