KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Township Police are investigating after a noose was found hanging at Kalamazoo Central High School.
Authorities were notified by Kalamazoo Public Schools security staff just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday after they discovered a noose hanging from the press box at Kalamazoo Central’s football field, located off of North Drake Road.
Kalamazoo Central’s Head Football Coach Carlton Brewster posted a photo of the noose on Twitter with the caption, “The Misunderstood When they fear you, and see you as threat they will do anything to destroy you. But they forgot our BOYS BUILT DIFFERENT!!! GAME OVER!!!!”
According to Kalamazoo Township Police Chief Bryan Ergang they are investigating this incident as a hate crime and are working closely with KPS Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri as well as other local, state and federal law enforcement partners.
Anyone with more information is being asked to come forward immediately. Authorities released a statement saying, “Since we are still in the early stages of investigating this reprehensible offense, we ask for patience as we review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.”
