KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials with the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County are reminding residents that painting messages in the streets is prohibited.
This comes after “Trump” was written on a portion of Pitcher Street in Kalamazoo Township and “Black Lives Matter” was painted at the roundabout at 12th Street and Texas Drive on the border between Portage and Texas Township, according to MLive.
In a press release the road commission explained that unauthorized pavement markings are a violation of the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and are a major safety concern.
The manual states that the unauthorized paint markings may confuse and distract motorists traveling on the roads and it puts the pedestrians who are painting the words at risk by performing work on an open roadway with no traffic regulator.
