PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A kitchen appliance may have sparked a house fire in Portage.
Public Safety officers were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 8600 block of Oakside Street near Portage Road in Portage around 1 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived they found a two story residential structure with moderate smoke coming from the front door.
Crews found the fire in the kitchen and quickly extinguished the blaze. All of the residents were already outside of the home at the time so no injuries were reported.
The estimated fire damage is valued at $5,000.
According to the press release the origin of the fire is believed to be a dishwasher; however, the cause is still under investigation.
