KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An annual event kicking off the school year at Western Michigan University will not take place this year.
The Bronco Bash Team and the Office of Student Engagement has decided to cancel the 40th annual Bronco Bash due to concerns over COVID-19.
In a written statement the organizers said:
“It is with a heavy heart that the Bronco Bash Team and the Office of Student Engagement has made the decision to cancel Bronco Bash 2020. We believe that this is necessary measure to do our part to protect the university, the local community, and to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus. We would like to sincerely thank our campus and community partners, sponsors, and participants from the past years and we hope to be able to see you in person next fall.
While we cannot carry on as we have in the past, we believe that connection is of the utmost importance, especially during these unprecedented times. With this in mind, the Bronco Bash Team is hard at work creating virtual opportunities to connect students with their peers, their university, and their community.
As we explore alternatives, keep an eye out for opportunities to provide input and feedback! More information on these opportunities will be made available as soon as possible.

Bronco Bash is an outdoor event that is typically held in August and usually features over 450 booths with organizations, giveaways, live music, and ways to get involved on campus. It’s one of the largest events held on campus every year with over 20,000 attendees.
