LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Beginning Monday, June 22, citizens will be required to have a State Recreational Passport to enter Michigan’s state parks again.
The announcement comes as parks have been allowed to reopen in Michigan.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state had previously waived the requirement, allowing citizens to access state camp areas without one. The move was also meant to help slow the spread of the virus among staff members.
Recreational passes are available for purchase upon renewing a license plate at $12, or purchased at the gates of a state park for $17. Varying costs are in place for motorcycle riders and out-of-state visitors.
Campers must also maintain social distancing as much as possible when camped out, along with wearing face masks in enclosed public facilities.
More information about recreational passports can be found at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website.
