PORTER TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A driver is injured after he claimed that the sun was in his eyes causing him to crash in Cass County.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of US-12 and Union Road in Porter Township.
Cass County Sheriff deputies say that 46-year-old Earl Horner was turning into the Horizon Bank parking lot and did not see the vehicle traveling westbound. Horner stated that the sun had gotten into his eyes while he was turning.
Horner was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for his injuries. His current condition has not been released.
The other vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Ryan Johnson from Bronson, had three others in the car: 46-year-old Tonya Derr, 15-year-old David Derr, and 2-year-old Aria Arredondo.
All four of them were checked out by Porter Township Ambulance and then released.
Authorities say seatbelts and a child safety seat were utilized by all parties involved in thecrash. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
