HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court issued a ruling upholding the DACA program, which allows 700,000 undocumented children known as “Dreamers” to remain in the U.S.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision provides much-needed certainty for those living in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program,” Upton said in a statement emailed to media. “It is the right thing to do — period. These young men and women came to our country through no fault of their own and are making meaningful contributions to our communities.”
He added, “Over the years I’ve gotten to know many Dreamers living in Southwest Michigan, some of whom came here when they were just 8 years old and know no other country than the United States. They’ve made their lives here. And now they will get to stay. Moving forward, I hope to see the Congress participate in robust debate and bipartisan discussions on better solutions to reform our immigration system and secure our borders.”
