KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An investigation is underway after a fire at a vacant home on Kalamazoo’s Northside.
It broke out around 5:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1400 block of Krom Street, north of East Clay Street.
When firefighters arrived they saw flames coming through the roof of the structure and a live power line that had fallen to the ground. They worked to protect neighboring homes from fire damage and brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
Officials with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety say the residence was vacant and there were no reports of injuries but the neighboring homes did suffer minor damage.
Consumers Energy was called in to clean up the live wires.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Fire Marshal’s office is launching an investigation.
This is the sixth vacant house fire in Kalamazoo this month, with the biggest being a suspicious fire that destroyed four homes on West North Street.
