CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to two different vehicle crashes on the same day over the weekend, both of which occurred on Saturday, June 13.
The first crash happened at 9:45 a.m. on Union Road at the intersection of Mason Street in Porter Township.
A 39-year-old Constantine woman was westbound on Mason Street when she stopped at the intersection of Union Road. After failing to yield to a northbound vehicle driven by a 66-year-old Vandalia man, the female drive struck the man’s driver side.
The man was then transferred to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Seatbelts were worn by both drivers. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Later that day, deputies responded to another crash that happened just after 2 p.m. on Bertrand Street and Ironwood Road in Milton Township.
A vehicle driven by a 55-year-old Elkhart man was traveling eastbound on Bertrand Street and disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Bertrand Street and Ironwood Road.
The second driver, a 57-year-old Niles woman, was proceeding through the intersection after stopping at Ironwood and Bertrand.
The first driver did not see the stop sign and struck the female on the side of her vehicle. She was transported by EMS to South Bend Memorial Hospital for her injuries.
Seatbelts were worn. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. Airbags did deploy when the crash occurred, which currently remains under investigation.
