KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s another promising sign of resuming normal operations as the city of Kalamazoo plans to reopen more amenities at local parks and launch other future programs.
Kzoo Parks summer programs were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but now they are scheduled to begin in late June and early July.
However, community members attending programs or enjoying park amenities should still be cautious and follow social distancing guidelines during this time.
Here are some of the upcoming reopenings:
- Woods Lake Park Beach will reopen starting June 15th.
- Florence Street Splash Pad will reopen June 12th, once improvements are completed.
- All city parks are currently open for limited use, but hands-on park equipment will be reopened June 15th.
- Basketball court rims will be reinstalled and completed on or before June 19th.
- Picnic pavilions will be available starting June 22nd.
- Park restrooms are scheduled to reopen June 29th.
- The MyCITY Summer Youth Employment program will start June 22nd.
- All Things Possible and Super Rec will start July 6th.
- Adult softball leagues will start on July 6th.
- Lunchtime Live! will return to Bronson Park on Fridays starting June 12th and run through September 4th.
Some park amenities are already available including the tennis and pickle ball courts, skate plazas, municipal golf courses and club houses.
Extra cleaning measures and safety precautions will be in place to keep everyone safe when utilizing the equipment or participating in a program. Changes have also been made to youth programs to limit group sizes.
However, due to safety concerns and other factors, the Kik Pool will not open for the 2020 season. Improvements are scheduled to take place this year and the pool will reopen in 2021.
