CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Binder Park Zoo is reopening this week after delaying its spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Doors will be open to visitors beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 29th.
Visitors to the Battle Creek area zoo will notice changes, like the temporary suspension of certain services and other safety precautions implemented to keep patrons, staff, and the zoo animals safe.
Activities like face painting, animal feedings, guided tours, and Animal Encounters will not be available for the time being. The Binder Park Zoo will also not be operating its Z.O. & O. Train and the Binda Conservation Carousel.
Other amenities will be partially restricted, including:
- The Safari Gift Shop and Zawadi Traders Shop will be open but with restricted capacity.
- Grab-and-go meals will be available, but diners with have to eat in outdoor seating locations.
- Wilderness Trams will still take visitors through the Wild Africa exhibit but at reduced capacity.
- Giraffe feeding will still be allowed but at reduced capacity with guests having to wear face masks and use hand sanitizer.
Visitors to the zoo are being advised to follow basic safety guidelines like wearing a facemask, washing hands, and practicing social distancing when making their trip.
