COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One person is dead after a crash in Van Buren County over the weekend.
MLive reports that it happened around 3 p.m. Sunday in the 41000 block of M-140 in Covert Township. Responding officers found the vehicle pinned against a tree.
Witnesses informed police that they had heard a loud noise and discovered the wreckage with the driver unconscious. No other passengers were inside the vehicle.
Investigators say that it is believed the driver was traveling southbound on M-140 when his vehicle went over the center line and crashed into the tree.
Police have since identified the victim as 58-year-old Ronald Edward Gilliland.
It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time. Police are currently awaiting the results of a toxicology report of Gilliland.
