KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An investigation is underway after a suspicious apartment fire in Kalamazoo’s South Westnedge Neighborhood.
Public Safety officers received multiple calls of a fire at the Candlewyck Apartments off of West Kilgore Road around 11 p.m. Thursday.
Residents were already evacuating the building when firefighters arrived and heavy smoke conditions were seen in the hallways.
A fire suppression team and multiple search and rescue units went into the building and other responders used ladders outside the apartment to help residents off of balconies.
The fire was quickly extinguished to prevent any major damage to the structure.
All tenants were able to return to their apartments and nobody was injured during the incident.
The cause of the fire is suspicious and the Fire Marshal’s office is investigating. Anyone with more information should contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
