KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo has announced a new plan to promote the concept of urban farming.
On Friday, May 14th, the City of Kalamazoo’s Zoning Board of Appeals approved variances on three properties to allow neighborhood food production.
The plan involves utilizing three empty lots in the Edison neighborhood and would be operated by the Zoo City Farm and Food Network, which is a worker-owned farming cooperative.
The properties are located on Washington Avenue, Mills Street, and Jackson Street.
A greenhouse and raised flower beds will be present at each location. Officials with Zoo City are hoping to start construction in July.
