SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of South Haven has announced that it has purchased HESCO barriers that will be used for shoreline protection and flooding control at multiple locations.
The barriers will be installed at what the city describes as “high priority infrastructure locations,” which in this case is the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the Water Treatment Plant/South Beach.
It is the City’s plan to leave these HESCO barriers in place until the high waters of Lake Michigan recede.
Earlier this week, MLive reported that Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Erie were all officially at monthly record high water levels for April. Citing data from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lake levels could continue to increase monthly into new records.
Although multiple scenarios are possible, data indicates that enough rainfall could send Lake Michigan to a level not seen since the 1800’s.
