KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Fire Marshal’s office is looking into the cause of a porch fire at a multifamily home in the city’s Vine Neighborhood.
Public Safety officers were called to the 700 block of South Rose Street near West Dutton Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday where they discovered the back porch of the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Search and rescue crews immediately entered the home and a fire suppression team brought the flames under control in about 20 minutes.
No injuries were reported and the American Red Cross is now working to help multiple people find shelter due to fire and smoke damage to the other apartments.
Public Safety officers say their quick response was paramount in preventing any damage to the adjacent houses.
