KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man has pleaded guilty to various drug and weapon charges after being arrested in early February.
MLive reports that investigators had been monitoring 31-year-old Jeremie Ennis for months before moving to arrest him. He was already considered a suspect in two other open cases involving a shooting and a robbery.
Ennis was apprehended on February 4. During an attempted traffic stop, he crashed into two cruisers before fleeing the scene on foot. When officers caught up to him, he became combative, fighting four officers before a taser was used.
Two loaded guns were found on his person and in his vehicle, one of which was discovered to be stolen.
He was also discovered to be in possession of materials used to package drugs, a scale, and around $4,000 thought to be collected from drug sales.
Thanks to a plea agreement, charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm were dropped.
However, Ennis has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver 50 or more grams of methamphetamine, as well as one count of carrying a firearm during a drug-related crime.
He will be facing a minimum of five years on each count, both of which are said to be served consecutively. He remains in custody at this time.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, it is currently unknown when he will be sentenced, but a conference is currently scheduled for May 9.
