KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Administrators with the Kalamazoo Public School district are making sure all students are equipped for their remote learning program.
Back in March, hundreds of refurbished Chromebooks were donated to KPS, but they were first offered to senior high school students in need on a first come first served basis.
Now the district is loaning laptops to all high school students who still need the proper technology in order to access their online materials.
The Chromebooks will be passed out on Wednesday, April 22, based on last name and at the following times for each school:.
Kalamazoo Central locations: Auditorium, student entrance, and gymnasium
- Last Name — A – J : 9-11 a.m.
- Last Name — K – R : 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Last Name — S – Z : 1-3 p.m.
- Open Pickup — 3-4 p.m.
Loy Norrix locations: Tower, back parking lot (C-Wing), and auditorium
- Last Name — A – E : 9-10 a.m.
- Last Name — F – K : 10-11 a.m.
- Last Name — L – R : 1-2 p.m.
- Last Name — S – Z : 2-3 p.m.
- Open Pickup — 3-4 p.m.
Phoenix:
- Open Pickup —1-4 p.m.
Kalamazoo Innovative Learning Program:
- Open Pickup — 3-5 p.m.
According to the district, sites will adhere to all social distancing guidelines during the distribution process. Chromebooks are only being loaned and must be returned in the same condition.
When picking up, students should bring their ID and a pen to sign a waiver at the site in order to receive the loaned device. Parents can also pick up devices without their student present, as long as they have the student’s ID.
