KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival will be held online for its 2020 installment.
The organization says at least 15 different poets will be participating in the virtual event, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 starting at 6:30 p.m.
Participants will include Bonnie Jo Campbell and former Kalamazoo resident and Copper Canyon Press poet Traci Brimhall.
A video compilation will be offered on Facebook at the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival Facebook page or online at the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival website.
“The Celebration of Community Poet and the Open Mic are such important events in the mission of the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival that we had to find a new way to do them,” Board president John Minser said in a statement. “There are so many voices in Kalamazoo with so much to say, and these events represent a powerful way to hear from community members of all ages and walks of life.”
The 2020 Festival originally was scheduled for April 18, but has been rescheduled under Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.
