KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Following a previously announced postponement, the City of Kalamazoo has confirmed that the Cork Street Project will now go ahead as planned.
The current projection date is from April 20 to June 1. City officials say that the work will take place at the intersection of Portage Road and Cork Street as part of the Cork Street water main replacement and resurfacing project.
During this time, travel on Portage Road near Cork Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction with turning movements onto Cork Street being limited. East bound traffic will continue to use the detour from Lovers Lane to Miller Road east to Emerald Drive. West bound traffic will detour from Cork Street using Emerald Street to Miller Road west to Portage Road.
Sidewalks will remain open while the project is underway.
This is only one facet of the project, however. The Cork Street Improvement project is expected to continue into late 2020, with most of the work being completed by November.
Officials say the date of April 20 will be reassessed as more details of the COVID-19 spread come to light.
