BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: Battle Creek Police have identified a person of interest in this recent double homicide case, linked to another incident that took place along an area highway.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that police are seeking charges against 56-year-old Kenneth Hoskins, A South Bend resident who was reportedly arrested for stabbing a semi-truck driver and then himself on a stretch of I-94 during Sunday afternoon.
Both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries resulting from the attempted car-jacking incident.
Before linking the two incidents, investigators started looking into the two suspicious deaths at Battle Creek’s Silver Star Apartment Complex as a double homicide.
Police say signs of a struggle in the apartment were present, and both victims appeared to have been stabbed. Multiple knives were found during the investigation.
After reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses, a person of interest was identified. Police say this person was an acquaintance of the victims and was already in custody on unrelated charges.
This is the only person of interest in this case, and police do not believe there are additional threats to the community. A motive still has yet to be established.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Monday that the car-jacking suspect was being charged for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and motor vehicle theft. Due to their medical condition the office has said that they will be arraigned at a later time.
Charges are currently being requested for the Battle Creek homicide case by police.

Police are calling two suspicious deaths reported at a Battle Creek veteran’s home a double homicide.
The Battle Creek Police Department says that two men were found dead on Sunday at Silver Star Apartment Complex, a subsidized community for former service members.
Around 4:30 p.m. a resident found the two, 62-year-old Fred Bissel and 41-year-old Jason Dush, deceased at the location.
Investigators say the two were not roommates at the time of the incident, but they believe both had been friends at some point.
Responding officers found signs of struggle at the scene, but it is currently unclear what lead to the deaths.
