LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (MRLAEF) has announced a new grant fund for displaced restaurant and hospitality workers.
The fund, officially known as the Michigan Hospitality Industry Employee Relief Fund, will disperse grants of $500 to workers who qualify. Applicants must demonstrate need and proof of hospitality industry employment as of March 10, 2020.
Officials say awards will be granted to all approved applicants until resources are fully depleted.
Although the fund is open to all hospitality workers, a separate fund is available specifically for restaurant workers, which is known as the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Restaurant Employee Relief Fund.
Employees can apply online now and disbursement will begin once funds are secured. MRLAEF officials say the organization will match donations to the grant for the first $100,000.
According to the official website, the MRLAEF mission is to “attract, empower and advance today’s and tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice workers.”
