KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Michigan State Firemen’s Association is warning citizens of a new email phishing scam reported in Kalamazoo and Swartz Creek.
According to the organization, the email requests the recipient to purchase gift cards for preventative items to those affected by the Corona Disease (COVID-19).
The email appeared to be sent from Michael McLeieer, President of the Michigan State Firemen’s Association. Other organizations across the country have also been victimized by this email scam, which appears to be coming from Denmark.
“The Michigan State Firemen’s Association is not solicitating any funds for COVID-19 or any other program,” officials said in a statement. “Please do not respond to the email and do not purchase any gift cards or iTune cards for COVID-19 or other causes.”
