HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — If you haven’t heard of “Zoom-bombing,” or video hacking yet, it’s the latest type of cybercrime, according to U.S. Dept. of Justice officials.
Michigan residents — including members of the Kalamazoo City Commission during a public meeting — have been Zoom bombed as conferences and classrooms shifted online. Hackers attack sessions with pornographic or hate images and threatening language.
Federal, state, and local law enforcement officials in Michigan warn anyone hacking into a video conference or teleconference can face state or federal charges. All of which are punishable by fines and prison.
“You think Zoom bombing is funny?”Matthew Schneider, United States Attorney for Eastern Michigan, in a statement emailed to media. “Let’s see how funny it is after you get arrested.”
