KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The name of a woman killed during a March 27th shooting in Kalamazoo’s Edison Neighborhood has been released by police.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety confirmed to MLive that the victim has been identified as 46-year-old Carman Hughes.
Hughes was killed after being shot by a 24-year-old man who “negligently” fired a gun while both were in a vehicle together around 4:45 p.m. March 27th on Jackson Street near Russell Street.
The Kalamazoo resident was transported to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries but later died from the gunshot wounds.
The male suspect was arrested by officers and taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail following the incident.
KDPS is declining to identify the 24-year-old shooter at this time because he has not yet been formally charged with a crime.
An active investigation is underway determining what events led up to the fatal shooting.
