KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, the YWCA Kalamazoo has announced that they will remain open to provide services to domestic violence victims.
During this time, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and more are welcome to utilize the services offered. The YWCA says the outbreak has created a “perfect storm of domestic violence conditions.”
In relation to the outbreak, the organization says the concerns lie in violent home situations becoming worse due to social isolation and quarantine measures. Since shelter services are still being provided as well, the YWCA is taking extra measures to ensure the facility is sanitized.
The facility will remain open 24 hours a day. The crisis line is always open at 269-385-3587.
In addition to the hotline, the organization has services relating to the following subjects:
- Anti-trafficking program
- Counseling and support groups
- Domestic assault program
- Sexual assault program
The YWCA of Kalamazoo is located at 353 E. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
Meanwhile, non-profit organization Futures Without Violence (FWV) is also offering resources for victims during the COVID-19 crisis.
“People who are surviving violence in their relationships and families may be experiencing increased isolation and danger caused by social distancing measures during the Coronavirus pandemic,” officials said in a statement. “Survivors often have specific needs around safety, health and confidentiality. We also realize that people who are already more vulnerable to economic and health insecurity are facing additional challenges during this unprecedented time.
