KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A construction project in Kalamazoo’s downtown corridor will result in traffic detours during the months ahead.
The Kalamazoo Public Services Department says that southbound North Edwards Street between East Michigan Avenue and East Water Street will be closed down for construction on parking lot #9, the site of a future mixed-use development.
City officials say the road closure is scheduled to take place between March 26th and October 31st later this year. All northbound traffic on North Edwards Street will be able to continue through the route and pedestrian paths will not be impacted by construction.
The site at 9 North Edwards Street was previously a city parking lot before being sold to Catalyst Development Co. in 2018, which has slated the property for a new $70 million dollar development project.
Plans for the seven-story building call for two floors of apartments, office space, and a 300-car parking garage across from the Arcadia Creek festival site in downtown Kalamazoo.
