LAWRENCE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A driver is in custody and charges are being sought against her passenger after a high speed chase through Van Buren County.
It began around 11:50 p.m. Monday in the 50,000 block of Red Arrow Highway near Lawrence.
A deputy spotted the vehicle traveling at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone and attempted to pull the driver over, but the woman continued speeding through the village of Lawrence.
The pursuit continued from Red Arrow Highway, to St. Joseph Street, south onto Blackman Street, west onto James Street, south onto Paw Paw Street, and ended on South Street.
The car chase eventually turned into a foot chase. The passenger was apprehended and an anonymous phone call helped authorities locate the driver inside an apartment at the South Street Apartments.
The driver, 27-year-old Lawrence area woman, was booked into the Van Buren County Jail for fleeing and eluding as well as an outstanding warrant.
The passenger, 23-year-old man from the Hartford area, could face charges for resisting and obstructing lawful orders from the deputy.
