AUGUSTA, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police report that an area woman was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a slowing train in Kalamazoo County.
The woman, who has been identified as a 73-year-old Benton Harbor resident, was walking near the 15,000 block of Fort Custer Drive near West Dickman Road east of Augusta around 3 p.m. on Monday when she fell onto the train tracks, before being struck by an approaching freight train.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies say the train operators were able to slow the locomotive before the incident occurred.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo to be treated for serious injuries sustained in the collision.
An investigation into the incident caused deputies to temporarily close down a section of Fort Custer Drive. No other details have been released at this time.
