A crash involving a cyclist has prompted a temporary road closure in Kalamazoo.
Police say that around 5:15 p.m., officers with the Department of Public Safety responded to intersection of S. Park St. and Forest St. for a report of a cyclist who was struck by a vehicle.
Officers say that a 47-year-old Kalamazoo man suffered severe injuries in the crash. Officers rendered aid until LIFE EMS arrived and transported the victim to Bronson Hospital, where he is currently listed in serious condition.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was questioned by officers. Several witnesses also stayed on scene to give statements. A preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist was traveling east on Forest St. when he attempted to cross S. Park St.
He was struck by the vehicle, which was traveling north on S. Park St.
As a result of this crash, S. Park St. is currently closed and will remain closed for approximately two hours. Motorist are asked to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
