KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Health officials in Kalamazoo County say they have tested 30 individuals for coronavirus, or COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the Kalamazoo County Health Department provided an updated on the testing, saying that 13 of the tests came back negative from a state lab, and 17 are pending results.
That comes after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the 110th individual testing positive in the state for the virus. According to MDHHS there are now no confirmed cases known in Kalamazoo County.
The county has taken the step of closing facilities until further notice beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16th. On Sunday county officials said they were also activating the Emergency Operations Center to allow for a coordinated response and access to additional resources if the epidemic continues to grow.
Public Health Officer Jim Rutherford says the County Government is working with other agencies to detect and respond to the growing number of coronavirus cases.
Despite the closures, Ruthorford wants the public to know that critical services will be provided.
“Again we want to give assurances that basic services will be provided if there are closures. Basic services such as transportation, public health services, hospital, EMS, first responders, as well as meals will be available to vulnerable populations,” Rutherford said.
According to the Sunday announcement, essential services will continue throughout the period.
