KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man was sentenced this week to nearly three decades in prison for sexually abusing a young girl.
In November 2019 Anthony Donal Short pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor under the age of 13. The 39-year-old was sentenced in a Kalamazoo County courtroom on Thursday, March 12th to 27 years in prison for the offense.
The man was previously a member of the U.S. Air Force and then became a stage manager at the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra following his discharge.
Court documents show that Short began molesting the girl when she was 10-years-old in 2013.
Investigators confirmed during court proceedings that Short continued to abuse the girl until she was 12. Police discovered a collection of child pornographic material that he made of the girl and other recordings made with hidden cameras in 2015 on his personal computer.
The material contained explicit content and images of Short touching the girl’s private areas.
Child pornographic material was transported across state lines at one point by the defendant from Alaska to Michigan.
On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Paul L. Maloney sentenced Short to 27 years in prison, followed by eight years of supervised release once his prison term is completed.
