KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo is preparing to launch a new 311 phone service.
This is not an emergency number like 911, rather, this hotline is meant to help connect citizens to city services. By doing so, citizens will have less of a wait time in contacting city departments.
Citizens should be aware that this number is not for emergency services. All citizens should still dial 911 in the case of an emergency.
The 311 hotline is available inside the city limits. An additional number can be dialed for those living outside the city, which is listed as 269-337-8000. Language options will be available upon dialing.
The number links to the City Manager’s office, and as a result, hours of operation must be observed to speak to city workers. Hours are listed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The number is similar to the 211 hotline, which is meant to assist callers in areas such as housing, utility, and mental health services.
The 311 service launched on March 11, although the city advises that the 269-337-8000 number may need to be dialed while the network is making its transition.
