KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are searching for a suspect after a robbery not far from Western Michigan University’s campus.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday in the 2700 block of Redwood Avenue near Lafayette Avenue in the city’s Knollwood Neighborhood. Around 2:45 a.m. WMU Public Safety tweeted, “A robbery was reported in the 1300 block of Lafayette Ave. KDPS is responding. Avoid the area.”
The victim was approached from behind by a man who demanded money, implied he had a weapon, and then took off in an unknown vehicle with the stolen property.
Authorities searched the area but the suspect was never located.
Officers describe the robber as a tall white man with light brown or blonde hair wearing a hooded sweatshirt or coat, a blue baseball cap, and blue jeans. They’re unsure of his age or a vehicle description at this time.
