KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Movie theater chain Goodrich Quality Theaters, which is based out of Grand Rapids, is asking a judge for help in being able to still show movies in its theaters.
Previously, the chain filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy due to outstanding debts in the range of $33 million. By doing so, the theater chain says it will be able to stay open while it straightens these debts out.
However, the company now says that major film distributors have warned that they may stop sending their movie to the chain for viewing. They are requesting protection from distribution loss.
The company fears that it will have to close its locations sooner than later should the request be denied.
A decision by a judge was not immediately made on Wednesday.
The company owns 30 theaters across five states. In Michigan, locations include the Kalamazoo 10 and West Columbia 7 in Battle Creek, among others.
