KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The founder of the Kalamazoo-area restaurant chain has passed away.
Bob Ketteman, also known as “Taco Bob,” died on Sunday, March 1st, according to a statement from the business via Facebook.
“This past weekend, Robert ‘Taco Bob’ Ketteman passed on,” the statement said in part. “For over 30 years, Bob grew his legacy not only through his beautiful family and their restaurants, but by teaching and sharing his signature Taco Bob’s Attitude of success through intentional positivity and joy, he was able to inspire in our community of thousands a better day, a better view, and a better life one smile and one taco at a time. The Taco Bob’s Attitude lives on in our restaurants and in you, our community. Thank you, Bob. We love you.”
The first Taco Bob’s location was opened in 1988 by Bob and his wife Nancy. Over time, the business expanded to other Kalamazoo County area towns. The most recent location was opened on South Westnedge Avenue last summer, replacing the location of a former Dairy Queen.
Taco Bob’s has participated in several public events, including a benefit fundraiser for victims of the Kalamazoo Uber shooting. The downtown location was also a frequent participant in the Kalamazoo Chili Cook-off.
Officials with the chain say that a celebration of Bob’s life is currently in the works. More details will be released as they are developed.
