KENT COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Western Michigan University student is now back in Kent County after he was stuck in China due to the coronavirus.
Dylan Tullet was studying Mandarin in Beijing and was forced to stay at a small village in southern China as the country imposed travel restrictions to combat the illness from spreading.
Embassy and university staff worked to bring him back to the states, and Tullet was able to catch a flight back to the U.S. around February 16th.
He spoke with WOOD-TV via video chats throughout the process.
Now he is being quarantined at his home in Kent County as a precaution. So far he has shown no signs of the illness and no one in the village was reported with the coronavirus.
Tullet says he hopes to continue his studies once the outbreak subsides.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has monitored a total of 347 people for signs of the coronavirus since the end of January, but it’s not clear how many patients are still being monitored.
