KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Future soldiers of the U.S. Army received their enlistment oath all the way from the International Space Station on Wednesday, February 26.
The speech was delivered by NASA astronaut and U.S. Army Col. Andrew Morgan to around 1,000 different new recruits across 150 locations in the country.
Nine different recruits from the Kalamazoo area gathered at the Air Zoo in order to receive the message from Space.
The speech delivered from space is said to be the first of its kind. Officials say it took around 8 months to prepare.
During his speech, Morgan touched on topics relating to perseverance and what the job entails. Following this, Morgan then took questions about what life in outer space is like.
The Kalamazoo event was one of only two that occurred on schedule – five events had to be cancelled due to inclement weather. The other was held in West Branch.
Officials and recruits were reportedly pleased with how the Kalamazoo event went down. No hitches in transmission were reported.
