KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It may take a little longer before The Exchange Building in downtown Kalamazoo is fully complete.
On Tuesday The Michigan Strategic Fund Board extended the interest-only period on some of their loans because of recent construction delays on the 15-story building towering over West Michigan Avenue near the Kalamazoo Mall.
The delay was apparently due to problems with the contractor and the trouble of working through two Michigan winters. No details were released on exactly what the issues were. They’re now working with subcontractors and, according to WOOD-TV, the building is slated to be completed by December 13th.
The Exchange Building broke ground back in May of 2017. Over 40 residents are already living in the building, but they’re still working to complete some of the commercial space and the over 80 other units.
