VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a man who attempted to jump off of an I-94 overpass has been detained.
Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a man, identified as a 48-year-old from the Paw Paw area, who said police had “two minutes to get to the overpass in Paw Paw.”
Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office, along with Paw Paw Police and Michigan State Police responded to the scene. A deputy claimed that the driver stopped a vehicle in the middle of M-40, then proceeded to crash into the guard rail and exit his vehicle.
The man then climbed up on the rail to jump off. However, he was pulled down by a Deputy, who detained the man with help from the Michigan State Police. He was then taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was intoxicated at the time.
He was treated medically at a local hospital before being lodged at the Van Buren County Jail for operating while intoxicated. No serious injuries were sustained to any party involved.
