WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Van Buren County Sheriff deputies are reminding residents to be alert and report any reckless driving after calls led to a recent traffic stop and drug bust.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday dispatchers received multiple reports to be on the lookout for a red 2014 Chevy Cruze that was driving erratically on M-43 in Kalamazoo County.
When the driver entered into Van Buren County authorities conducted a traffic stop on M-43 near 37th Street in Waverly Township and realized the driver was impaired by narcotics.
A Drug Recognition Expert from the Pokagon Band of Tribal Police assisted in the investigation and said the driver was operating on opiates and a small amount of suspected heroin was located in his mouth.
The 44-year-old man from the Kalamazoo area was booked into the Van Buren County Jail for operating under the influence of drugs and possession of heroin.
