LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced that she is endorsing State Rep. Jon Hoadley for the seat of District Six in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Whitmer made the announcement in a Twitter post on February 21.
“I’ve known Jon for a long time and he is a tireless advocate for cleaning up our environment, combating climate change, expanding healthcare, ensuring that everyone has full respect and protection under our civil rights protections,” Whitmer said in her announcement. “He is the kind of person that the sixth district needs.”
Hoadley is currently serving his final two-year term for the 60th House District, which covers the areas of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Township and some areas of Portage.
The seat for District Six is currently held by Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, who has held the position since the 1980’s.
District Six covers Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties.
According to a report by the Detroit News, Upton has announced his intentions to seek reelection as of February 24.
