KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is reporting that a Kalamazoo man was hospitalized after a botched drug deal.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of Sunnyside Drive near Gull Road, but officers responded to a local hospital for reports of a gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, police learned that the victim, a 24-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was shot during a drug deal. The victim’s wounds are not believed to be life threatening.
Police say that the suspect involved in the shooting is described as a very thin black male with short hair and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and has not been located at this time.
According to police, this incident was not a random act of violence and the general public was not targeted. However, local schools were placed on lockdown until the area was secured.
