KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A current Kalamazoo Township Trustee is filing her paperwork to run for the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.
Jen Strebs is seeking the District 4 seat, currently held by commissioner Michael Seals, and says it’s time for a new era of leadership and representation on the county board.
Strebs, who has lived in the Westwood Neighborhood since 2001, has been a township trustee since 2017.
She is currently seated on the board of directors for the Public Media Network, the Kalamazoo Township Election Commission, and the Regional Water and Wastewater Commission. Strebs is also an appointed member of the Kalamazoo County Identification Card Advisory Board.
She says a number of significant issues must be tackled like housing, improving public health outcomes, and responding to the climate crisis.
“Courage is needed to move forward with leadership that is focused on equity and collaboration. We must have elected officials who believe in transparency and who are accountable to our residents. These values are necessary to solve the complex problems ahead of us. I know that my experience as a mental health professional, activist, and elected public servant will be a valuable asset to move us into the future as a community,” says Strebs.
She will file her paperwork with the county clerk at 1 p.m Friday.
